Since earlier this year I have been going across the road to the track along the Heathcote River between Dyers rd and Ferrymead/Heathcote end. My nickname for it is 'Beri-Ford track'. I went over there every so many weeks or so,but now I find myself down there each weekend, eager to get more pics of the damage that is continuous. I have hundreds of pics showing the slipping of the land into the river, the cracks as they grow and open wider, the trees that have suffered from the pressure of the liquefaction, the putrid state of the water and the banks, the worsening conditions of the buildings that back onto it and the hidden cracks under the grasses, and one sight that makes me sad, the 'Lost Cat' sign posted on a slowly subsiding tree after the Ferrymead Vets cat went missing after the February Quake. Driving home tonight from work in the last year is not exciting but I just realised earlier that I want to be at home, near the Heathcote river and also to be near to the Port Hills, especially the 'nipple' on top of one of the hills, both these places have grown in my heart and I no longer regret moving to Ferrymead just a year before the Sept quake.
Please bear with me as working out how to use these blogs and insert pics :) I intend to get some time to put up many more pics.

I was surprised to see that last night walking down the track someone has ripped off the 'Missing cat' sign from the tree. They tore off the part that showed the cats face but the top and the bottom of the sign is still there. The tree looked a bit straighter than other times, think it is the way that part of the track is sliding into the river.Since going down the track since the Sept quake this sign was like the emblem of the track and will never be forgotten.I had just said to a friend, when that tree finally gives and falls I am going to take it back home. For what reason I have no idea.So it was sad seeing his picture gone, along with his memory to others.
